She Is To Remain Quiet
Role: Joseph Lawrence
Director: Kasia Zaremba
Portraying Commander Joseph Lawrence is a study in contradiction. On the surface, he's one of the architects of Gilead - intelligent, sadistic and deeply pragmatic. Yet beneath the exterior lies a man who is unravelling under the weight of his own moral compromise. This partnered with Kasia Zaremba's incredible physical direction made Lawrence an opportunity to explore the grayest of greys in human behaviour whilst remaining light, comedic and likeable on stage.
The Watsons
Role: Robert Watson
Director: Michael Oakley
Stepping into the role of Robert Watson is like stepping into the middle of a collision between duty and desire. At first glance Robert is the sensible brother who is practical, grounded and unassuming. But beneath his calm exterior is a man struggling to keep pace with a world and narrative that is shifting beneath his feet. This partnered with Michael Oakley's brilliant insight into the victorian era meant finding nuance in stillness, meaning in convention and tension in a man who doesn't know what rebellion looks like - but sense it may be coming.
